Current Artistic Pursuits

Taking a short Judah break to talk about another passion of mine—art.

I’ve been learning to draw off and on for the past couple of years. I was making good strides last year but then, as usual, I got frustrated and backed away. Then I got pregnant and for the first few months, I was so sick I couldn’t do anything except grow this baby! ;)

As the nausea subsided, I found myself desiring sewing again. I worked on hand sewing projects like English paper piecing and embroidery because they were things I could do from the comfort of my couch. I often find myself dreaming about quilting and embroidery designs and wanting to make certain dresses or other pretty items of clothing. It’s a little harder to sew with a baby but I know one day I‘ll get back into it.

Sewing got me back into a creative mindset and I started drawing again in May. This time I started studying classical drawing and I feel like I have a much better foundation. I’ve taken it slowly with the least amount of expectations this time around and I have probably progressed the most just since this summer. I’m currently taking figure drawing and character design courses online and my dream to one day be an illustrator is slowly taking shape.

I’ve also been helping my husband with his videography business. He and my brother-in-law are known around here for their wedding videography and I have the privilege of learning from one of the best story tellers in the business. Ultimately, a lot of my artistic pursuits have been pointing back to an even deeper desire to be a storyteller and so making emotive and artistic videos documenting beautiful weddings with my husband has been very fulfilling.

I know it seems as though I’m all over the place with my pursuits, but they have all been integral in living the artistic life that I really found myself desiring the past few years. I‘m excited to hopefully learn and grow in all of these areas in between all of those special moments with the people that I love most.

A Master Study that I did of a John William Waterhouse piece. Made in Procreate.

Some of Judah’s quilt...I will finish this eventually!
