Santa Baby Sewing Project

Updated: Nov 2, 2020

Can I rejoice over the fact that I completed my first sewing project since having my precious babe?! And of course, it was something just for him.

Grandpa Kemper wanted to make sure that I wasn’t going to be one of those moms that made their kid wear a homemade knit jumper to school. So I have to get all of the potentially embarrassing cutesy outfits over with now (tee hee).

I knew I wanted to make sure we got special Christmas photos of Judah so I made Santa pants and a Santa hat for the occasion. Since I’m now a mom, I have to try and be a little more frugal and I was determined to not waste money on a pattern when I was pretty sure I could just draft patterns for those two things myself. And unlike most of my whimsical, half baked ideas, I was actually able to pull this one off. I traced a pair of leggings that I knew fit well for Judah and that’s how I was able to come up with a good pattern for the pants.

I used Art Gallery Fabrics jersey knits to construct this outfit. It is so soft and so easy to work with. One thing that I love about sewing with knits is it was all constructed on my serger! I had so much fun with this project, I’m scheming up another Skillshare class about making baby leggings.
